Comparison of the nutrition-based education program and Omega-3 Supplements on Fatigue in the hemodialysis patient: Randomized clinical trial

چکیده مقاله:

Fatigue is the most common complaint in patients with End Stage Renal Diseases, fatigue devastating effects on the quality of life in patients undergoing hemodialysis. This study aimed at Comparison of a nutrition-based education program and Omega-3 Supplements on Fatigue in a hemodialysis patient. Materials and Methods: This randomized clinical trial study was conducted in hemodialysis patients in selected AJA hospitals. The experimental group 1, received nutrition based program and The experimental group 2, received daily 2 grams of omega-3 capsules and the control group did not receive care. The sample size is calculated using the Pukak formula and similar studies plus 10%. The samples were randomly divided into three groups. Before intervention, there was no significant difference between the groups. The Inclusion criteria are the patient s willingness to participate in the study, having at least a reading and writing literacy, at least 6 months of their dialysis, 3 sessions of dialysis per week, a range older than 18 years of age, not having a history of malignancy and inflammatory diseases, and Infection, non-use of immunosuppressive drugs and antidepressants, no prohibition of supplementation of omega-3 and sea-food susceptibility, having a license for omega-3 use from nephrologists. The exclusion criteria include Unwillingness to cooperate with each sample, malignant and inflammatory diseases during the study, any sensitivity or response to omega-3 supplementation in samples. The number of 66 patients selected to the study and were compared in 3 groups randomly. All samples were tested at the beginning of the study and then 8 weeks after the intervention using a completed MFI questionnaire. Demographic information and outcomes entered into analytic software and analyzed blindly. Data were collected using a Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory (MFI-20) and demographic questionnaire and were analyzed with software spss21. The P-value less than 0.05 considered statistically significant. Indeed, the study approved in AJA ethics committee, And the clinical trial code is IRCT2015091020041N3. Result: Statistical test showed no significant difference in education and omega-3 and control groups in Different dimensions of fatigue before the intervention. Education group in total fatigue, general, mental fatigue and reduced motivation are significant differences compared before and after the intervention. Omega-3group in the total fatigue and general, reduced physical activity are significant differences compared before and after the intervention. Discussion and conclusion:According to the results suggest that nutrition-based programs and omega-3 supplementation as simple and non-invasive and therapeutic methods in the treatment of fatigue used hemodialysis .
