خلاصه مقاله:
Background and Aim: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of different shift work schedules on the self-rated health and fatigue levels among workers of an oil refinery in western Iran. Also, additionally aimed to investigate the correlation between fatigue and self-rated health level. Methods: The numbers of 114 workers recruited in this study based on types of shift work schedules divided into following groups: fixed day shift work (FDSW) and rotating shift work (RSW). A 3-part self-administrated questionnaire includes Socio-demographic information, EuroQol visual analog scale (EQ-VAS) and visual analog fatigue scale (VAFS) was used to collect data. The logistic regression models were applied to determine the risks of poor health status and severe fatigue.Result: The mean and standard deviation (SD) for the EuroQol and VAFS scales in FDSW vs. RSW groups were 79.04(15.94) vs. 81.27(19.58) and 5.22(7.68) vs. 6.83(2.64) respectively. Significant difference was found between fatigues levels in RSW compared to FDSW group. The adjusted odds ratio for poor health status and severe fatigue in RSW compared to FDSW were estimated (OR = 0.72.95% CI = 0.31.1.67, P= 0.446) and (OR = 2.78.95% CI = 1.21.6.34, P= 0.016) respectively. Also, we found a significant inverse correlation between fatigue and health status levels (coefficient= - 0.229, p-value=0.014).Conclusion: Our study showed that RSW schedule can associated with high level of fatigue. However, more studies are required to confirm our findings and investigate the effects of other types of shift work schedules.
