چکیده
Background and Aim: Recognizing the physical and chemical properties of solid waste reduces the problems in storage, collection, transport, final disposal and resuscitation projects such as composting, energy and biogas, recycling and reuse. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine physical and chemical characteristics of waste in Mashhad. Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted in Mashhad in 2016. In order to determine the components of urban waste, the solid waste was classified into seven categories of corrosive materials, paper and carton, glass, plastic, textiles, wood and metals, and weight was obtained from each component by weight. For physical analysis of the waste, a random sample of half a cubic meter was placed inside the density gauge. After filling the density gauge, the solid waste was isolated according to the type and placed in the nylon bags, then the percentage of each component was calculated. Also, sampling was carried out by Landfill Leachate and according to the standard method, heavy metals were tested (BOD, COD, pH).Results: The highest amount of waste produced in the city of Mashhad was in the summer of 2190 tons per day and the lowest amount in winter was 1890 tons per day. Qualitative analysis of waste products showed that the highest amount of waste was related to corrosive materials at 1407000 kg/day and the minimum amount pertaining to glass was 236 kg/day. Experiments conducted on leachate showed that the highest type of heavy metal was in the milk of the city of Mashhad, Ni (3.1 mg/L). The experiments showed that the BOD, COD, and leachate pH was 6.5, 49900, and 1980 mg/L, respectively. Conclusion: Considering the high level of corrosive materials in the waste products, it is recommended that composting be taken into consideration and then the necessary measures to recycle valuable materials such as paper and cardboard should be placed on the agenda of the solid Waste Management and Municipality of Mashhad.کلیدواژه ها
