Echocardiography in Pulmonary Hypertension

Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) is a complex disease with multiple etiologies and high mortality and morbidity rate.PH is most often diagnosed in its advanced stages because of the non specific nature of early symptoms and signs. Right Heart is the most common target, in which, PH is manifested and Echocardiography is a key diagnostic and prognostic tool in evaluation of this disease. Triangular shape of Right Ventricle (RV) from the front and its crescentic in cross sectional view, in addition to heavy trabeculation, make RV too difficult to proper evaluation. In this lecture it is sought to depict its complexity and the normal and abnormal value of right heart chambers, furthermore, all consequences of PH on right heart in different aspects will be discussed. How to suspect PH is an important question, which will be answered. Qualitative and quantitative assessment of right heart with some sophisticated ways of right heart evaluation will be posed to show how better we can approach to this disorder. Finally some Echo movies of PH with different etiologies will be depicted.
