چکیده مقاله:

In the last decade, traditional medicine has been used to treat several diseases such as hemolytic anemia. One of these plants is Salix nigra. This plant is expanding vastly in Iran. In this experiment, we assessed the anti-anemic property of aqueous extract of S. nigra.Materials and Methods: After collection of the plant, its extract was obtained using Soxhlet extractor. In vivo design, after one day of the last injection of Phenylhydrazine, the rats were divided into six subgroups, including negative healthy control, untreated negative control, and four groups receiving the S. nigra at 25, 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg concentrations. At the end of day 15 of treatment, the animals of all groups were euthanized and blood samples were drawn immediately from the animals hearts to analyze the hematological and biochemical parameters. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan post hoc test. Findings: All doses of aqueous extract of S. nigra (especially at dose of 200 mg/kg) significantly (p<0.05) increased the levels of body weight, WBC, neutrophils, platelet, RBC, Hb, PCV, MCV, MCH, MCHC, and decreased the raised levels of ALP, AST, ALT, GGT, urea, creatinine, ferrous, ferritin, and erythropoietin as compared to the untreated group. Conclusion: The results showed the useful anti-anemic property of S. nigra aqueous extract
