چکیده مقاله:

Enhancing bacterial resistance to chemical antibacterial drugs and their probabilistic side effects cause popularity of medicinal plants, so in spite of the presence of known antibiotics in the pharmaceutical market, remedies from ethnomedicinal plants are used with success to treat bacterial infections. This study was undertaken to evaluate the antibacterial (against Escherichia coli O157:H7, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumonia, Listeria monocytogenes, Shigella flexneri, Proteus mirabilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Bacillus subtilis, and Enterococcus faecalis), antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities properties of aqueous extract of Salix nigra collected from Kermanshah Province, west of Iran. Materials and Methods: To recognize antibacterial activities of the S. nigra, agar disk and well diffusion tests were used. Macro broth tube test was accomplished to specified Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). Findings: Indeed, compared with all standard antibiotics, the S. nigra aqueous extract showed higher antibacterial properties (p<0.01). The synthesized aqueous extract had great cell viability dose-dependently (Investigating the effect of the plant on Hela, MCF-7, and HEK-293 cell lines) and indicated this method was nontoxic for synthesizing S. nigra. DPPH free radical scavenging test was carried out to examine the antioxidant property, which revealed similar antioxidant property of S. nigra with butylated hydroxy toluene (BHT) as a positive control. Conclusion: It appears that S. nigra aqueous extract can be used as an antibiotic to treat some bacterial infections. Fractionation of active molecules is suggested to be perused in the future studies
