چکیده مقاله:

Bioactive glasses are promising materials composed of elements naturally have the ability of osteostimulation through genetic pathways to accelerate natural bone growth in order to repair or regenerate bone tissue and being biocompatible differs them from conventional glasses. In this study, standard characterization method of 45S5 bioactive glass was set up through an establishment of test items, acceptance criteria and standard analysis methods with quality control perspective. Lab and large scale batches were characterized through the established method and compared with a commercial product which is already available in the market.Physicochemical properties of three consecutive lab batches and large-scale batches were consistent and the same as commercialized brands as well. Bioactivity (Ca/P ratio) of the produced bone graft and the brand sample were 1.5 and 1.9, respectively which are near to natural bone composition of human (1.67). Increases in the concentration of Na, Ca and Si ions in a buffer solution occurred as a function of time. Phosphate ion indicated a sudden increase followed by a decrease. This is a similar trend as commercial product, and alike to scientific evidence. Dissolution profiles show the kinetics of bioabsorption of bone grafting materials in the body. Our results suggest that the product is exactly similar to well established brands in terms of quality. Therefore, the process scale up is successful and the product could be commercialized after meeting further regulatory requirements
