چکیده مقاله:

The reconstruction of tissue defects because of developmental, oncosurgery or traffic accidents or congenital conditions is one of the main challenges in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Tissue engineering or tissue regeneration is defined as a multidisciplinary field with the perspective to replace tissue loss. Tissue engineering approach provides numerous prospective benefits and has basically a triad of stem cells, signaling molecules, and scaffolds or extracellular matrix (ECM). Application of tissue engineering in oral and maxillofacial surgery is consist of bone regeneration, cartilage regeneration, soft tissue regeneration, salivary gland regeneration, fat, muscle, and nerve regeneration. The oral and maxillofacial surgeon should be aware of advances techniques in tissue engineering application and should be able to use it for the treatment of the maxillofacial defects. In the present study, we will be discussing the role of tissue engineering in the rehabilitation of defects of maxillofacial surgery
