چکیده مقاله:

IntroductionFacial bone reconstruction has been a challenge for an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Recently some studies have reported the use of stem cells in facial reconstruction to osteogenesis, However, to ensure that stem cells remain in the recipient site, a biocompatible carrier is needed to transfer the stem cells. Tissue engineering has emerged as a new approach in this field. In tissue engineering scaffolds are needed to guide cell growth.ObjectivesThe purpose of this review is to have an overview on the applications of the fibrin glue as a bone graft substitute in maxillofacial injuries and defects And to determine if the fibrinous scaffold is better than other methods.MethodsA search was conducted using the databases such as Medline or PubMed and Google Scholar for articles from 2003to 2017. The criteria were tissue engineering, Regenerative medicine, Maxillofacial injury, bone repair, fibrin glue, fibrin scaffold.ResultsAutologous fibrin scaffolds are excellent candidates for tissue engineering and application of fibrin glue can be a safe treatment of choice in maxillofacial surgeries when compared with another method like using macroporous biphasic calcium phosphate (MBCP) or using autologous bone graft.ConclusionFibrin glue appears to be promising scaffold in regenerative maxillofacial surgery and can be subject of interest in tissue engineering.
