چکیده مقاله:

IntroductionThe cement industry has been recognized to be playing a vital role in the imbalances of the environment and producing air pollution hazards. The industry releases huge amounts of cement dust into the atmosphere which settle on the surrounding areas forming a hard crust and causes various adverse impacts. Moreover, chronic inhalation of cement dust caused airway obstruction, neutrophils recruitment to the lung and in the bloodstream. The cement industry generates a large amount of cement dust; therefore, it is necessary to evaluate health hazards on the person’s resident near cement factory.ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to evaluate effect of air pollutants on human health during study influence of air pollutants emission from kufa cement factory on respiratory system in resident persons near factory for long period.MethodsThe study evaluated of lung function by using mini-wright peak flow meter on 50 (30 smoker and 20 non-smoker) and 50 unexposed non-smoker individuals constituted control group. Additionally, data were collected through using prepared questionnaire contained items related to age, height, weight, long period resident, and smoking and disease symptoms.ResultsThe results showed a significant decrease at level (P> 0.05) in peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) of resident persons near kufa cement factory (non-smokers and smokers) as compared to control. Furthermore, the study indicated that coughing (30%) was the most common types of lung symptoms in resident persons near kufa cement factory. However, the results revealed that percentages of shortness of breath (24%), eye irritation (16 %), acute coughing (14%), dermatitis (10 %) and rhinitis (6%) were distributed in resident persons near kufa cement factory.ConclusionThe study concluded that exposure to air pollutants emission from kufa cement actory cause harmful effects on respiratory system of resident persons
