On the mixed mode fracture toughness of epoxy-based composites reinforced by cotton fibers

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the mixed mode I/II interlaminar facture toughness (IFM) of polymer-based composites reinforced by natural fibers. A modified Arcan test configuration was used to measure the IFM under mixed mode I/II loading condition. The specimens were made of epoxy resin and cotton fibers. A given volume fraction of the fibers were used to manufacture the samples. Various mixed mode ratios were considered to evaluate its effect on the IFM. The results showed that the mode mixity has a significant influence on the IFM.
