چکیده مقاله:

Catfish (or catfishes; order Siluriformes) are a diverse group of ray-finned fish. Named for their prominent barbels, which resemble a cat s whiskers, catfish range in size and behavior. Catfish are of considerable commercial importance; many of the larger species are farmed or fished for food. Many of the smaller species are important in the aquarium hobby. Suckermouth Cat fish (Hypostomus plecostomus) is an ornamental fish which is found in almost all aquariums. Monogenea are plathyhelminths which dominantly infest fish skins and gills with high host specificity. In this investigation, 67 suckermouth cat fish were randomly collected from different ornamental fish markets in Semnan, Iran. Fish were carried to the Lab alive and their skins and gills were examined for parasitic infestations. Parasites isolated from the skin included: Ichthyophthyrius multifiliis (17.42%), Trichodina sp. (15.41%) and Gyrodactylus sp. (12.73%). The gills were infested by Ancyrocephalus sp. (26.86%) and Trinigyrus hypostomatis (43.28%) ((Dactylogyridae). This is the first report of Trinigyrus hypostomatis in Iran.
