Evaluation of cinnamon hydroalcoholic extract effect on testicular tissue and spermatogenesis in oligo-spermic model rats

چکیده

Background and Objective: Busulfan is a specialty drug for treating cancer that has side effects, including damage to testicular and infertile tissue. Cinnamon is one of the most used herbs used in traditional medicine to enhance sexual strength. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cinnamon alcoholic extract on physiological structure and spermatogenesis of testis in busulfan oligo-spermic model rats. Materials and Method: 24 adult male rats were divided into 3 groups included Sham: healthy rats without intervention. Control group: Busulfan-sterilized mice, cinnamon group: Busulfan-treated rats + cinnamon extract (200 mg / kg) for fourteen days. After four weeks, all animals were sampled and the parameters of length, width and weight of the testicles as well as the formation of spermatogonia cells, primary spermatocyte and spermatid were analyzed by H & E staining and optical microscopy. Data analysis was performed by software SPSS and ANOVA. Findings: The formation of spermatogonia cells, primary spermatocytes and spermatids in the cinnamon group was significantly higher than the control group (P < 0.005). The weight and testicle length and width parameters in the cinnamon group were higher than the control group. The thickness of germinal epithelium in the cinnamon group was significantly higher than the control group (P < 0.001). Conclusion: According to our findings, cinnamon extract has a positive restorative effect on the tissue of germinal epithelial cells and is capable of significantly enhancing spermatogenesis in busulfan-induced rats. The findings of this study are the basis for the scientific use of cinnamon in the treatment of sterility
