In this research, the effect of applying a pre-stress cylindrical bridge on the energy absorption rate and its effect on the fracture of the cross section is studied. Highway bridging columns in high seismic regions can undergo significant displacement after large earthquakes. Residual displacements are important in measuring the pre-earthquake performance, while most of the efficiency of the bridge is determined after the earthquake. This research is conducted with the aim of investigating the increase of energy absorption, the study of the rate of deformation, the rate of fracture, and the determination of the curve of push-over. Here a finite element model is proposed using ABAQUS software. In order to evaluate the hypothesized system, the structural analysis of the studied columns is investigated in two modes of pre-stress and non-pre-stress. The results of presented model is compared with a laboratory model which is selected from literature. In this study, the use of pre-stress cables has increased the degree of ductility, energy absorption and ultimate strength, as well as the amount of fracture modulus decreased.
