A Comparative Evaluation of the Two Different ESP Textbooks for the Medical Students

چکیده
In this study we analyze the role of textbooks in English for specific purpose of teaching. In this regard materials are the most appropriate option in our study. The efficiency of ESP books depends on their successful conformity and the teachers whom they have to be specialists in teaching materials. This study aims at comparing two different ESP textbooks, one of them English for the Students of medicine: Medical Science Texts by M. H. Tahririan, PhD, A. Ameri Golestan, PhD, and Dr. M. A. Tahririan (SAMT publication), and the other one is English for the students of Dentistry by M. H. Tahririan, PhD and F. Mehrabi (SAMT publication). Although the perfect textbook may not exist, it is feasible to deal with and meet the shortcomings. The ESP books are significant tools for meeting students’ needs and reflecting the teachers’ view of the teaching-learning process. Another important factors is ESP teachers’ ability which should be evaluated according to their capacity and experience in material production (Swales, 1980a), this being one of the myths of ESP (Dudley-Evans & St John, 1998). The purpose of this research project is to determine the whole pedagogical value and suitability of the book toward this specific language program and compare it with the old ones. For the purpose of comparison and contrast, (Miekley, 2005) Textbook Evaluation Checklist is used against which the components of these two books are weighed to show what they have in common where the point of departure from any commonality is. Suggestions regarding the kinds of activities, strategies, layout and other important issues are discussed.کلیدواژه ها

COI مخفف عبارت CIVILICA Object Identifier به معنی شناسه سیویلیکا برای اسناد است. COI کدی است که مطابق محل انتشار، به مقالات کنفرانسها و ژورنالهای داخل کشور به هنگام نمایه سازی بر روی پایگاه استنادی سیویلیکا اختصاص می یابد.
کد COI به مفهوم کد ملی اسناد نمایه شده در سیویلیکا است و کدی یکتا و ثابت است و به همین دلیل همواره قابلیت استناد و پیگیری دارد.
