Holmium vanadate nanstructures (HoVO4), had been successfully synthesized via ultrasonic irradiation based on the reaction between holmium nitrate hexahydrate and ammonium metavanadate. The capping agent was used to investigate their effects on the morphology and particle size of holmium vanadate nanostructures. The results show that using the suitable amount of capping agent could be effective on particle size and morphology. The average particle size was estimated 86 nm in SEM image. The photocatalytic studies of as-made sample in a photodegradation reaction showed a maximum decolorization of cationic dye is about 54 % after 90 minutes, under ultraviolet (UV) light irradiation. Consequently, nano-sized HoVO4 shows suitable efficiency as stable semiconductor in the photodegradation of dye as an environment pollutant. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of the product were characterized by techniques such as Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy.
