چکیده مقاله:

Aluminum black dross (ABD) as a hazardous solid waste imposes serious environmental and public health problems. Finding an appropriate solution to overcome/decline the mentioned concerns is a necessity. In this regard, reuse of solid wastes in adsorption applications has attracted the attention of many researchers. This study elucidates the utilization of the ABD as a low-cost adsorbent for removal of lead from aqua medium. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated that the raw ABD has a relatively dense structure. To increase the specific surface area, the ABD was firstly rinsed with deionized water to remove soluble salts. Then, the washed ABD was activated with hydrochloric acid. The modified ABD exhibited BET surface area, total pore volume, and average pore diameter of 32.4 m2/g, 0.18 cm3/g, and 21.9 nm, respectively which were 2.3, 3.6, and 1.5 times higher than the corresponding values of the raw ABD. The adsorption tests revealed that the equilibrium condition reached after a contact time of 60 min, corresponding to a lead removal efficiency of 90.1%.
