Investigating the protective effects of quercetin on ethanol-damaged B92 glial cell

Quercetin is a flavonoid with antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the protective effects of quercetin on ethanol-damaged B92 glial cells. B92 glial cells were exposed to different concentrations of quercetin (i.e. 0, 62.5, 125 and 250 μM) for 24 hours. After quercetin removal, these cells were treated for 80 minutes with 86 mM ethanol. Then, the vital capabilities of these cells were measured with an MTT assay and neutral red test. The results of the MTT test showed that quercetin had a protective effect on mitochondrial performance at all concentrations. Also, the neutral red test showed that quercetin with a concentration of 125 μM (P <0.05) and a concentration of 250 μM (P <0.05) significantly improves membrane function. Quercetin significantly reduces damage caused by ethanol to mitochondria and the membrane of B92 cells. So Quercetin can be used to decrease the damage caused by ethanol
