LDHs are anionic clays whose structure is lamellar. They are constituted by pairs of octahedral divalent and trivalent cations. MgAl(Cl) LDH precursor was prepared by a mixed solution of MgCl2 6H2O (0.75 M) and AlCl3 6H2O (0.25 M) was slowly pumped into decarbonated water under flowing N2 with vigorous stirring at a constant pH of 8.0-8.2 adjusted by simultaneous drop-wise addition of NaOH solution. The synthesized LDHs were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR). The surfactantmodified MgAl(SDBS) was obtained by the anion exchange reaction of MgAl (Cl) LDH with Sodium dodecyl benzene sulfate (SDBS) at 60 oC for 40 h. The PS/Mg-Al LDH nanocomposites were prepared by the solution intercalation method. A desired amount of Mg-Al(SDBS) was firstly refluxed in xylene under flowing N2. Then the copolymer was added into the Mg-Al (SDBS) suspension. After stirring for 3 h at 140 OC, the mixture was poured into ethanol for rapid precipitation.
