چکیده مقاله:

Background: Nurses have played special role in the complex care of patients with cancer. Theprofessional oncology nurses contribute significantly to patients’ well-being and improving clinicaloutcomes. However, the oncology nurses encounter of many challenges and received littlerewards.Material and Methods:This is narrative presentation on challenges and rewards of oncologynursesResults::The challenges of oncology nurses included: heavily workloads, long shifts, too muchworking overtime, relationship conflict with other staff, lack of management leadership, highpsychological, social and emotional needs of patients and families, lack of rewards. On the otherhand, the three most important sources of rewards were patients, co-workers, and new skills.Conclusions:The challenges for nurses may negatively affect the delivery of high-quality patientcare. Some suggestion for overcoming challenges and increasing rewards, including; Creating timeand space for staff self-care, reinforcement and support, psychosocial rounds and availability ofcounselors, Acknowledgment and reinforcement of nurses’ special efforts, increasing nursesreceiving specialized oncology education and training.
