چکیده مقاله:

Arsenic (As.) toxicity as a global health problem is effecting many millions of people. The main sources of As. contamination are including natural geological sources, contaminated drinking water, mining and industrial processes. Also, some medicines contain As. toxicity of As. is resulted in acute or chronic poisoning, as well as human cancer. Many studies have proposed anti-oxidant therapy for reducing the toxicity of As. in sub-acute and chronic study. Growing evidences have shown the Quercus infectoria (Q.I) galls extract as an antioxidant agent. The aim of current study was evaluating the effect of concomitant administration of Q.I galls extract on oxidative stress induced by sub-acute exposure to As. in blood and liver of rats. Methods: Rats were randomly divided into 4 groups of 6 animals and treated as below. The first group received normal saline in drinking water. Second group received extract of gall in 3doses. The third group received 5/5 mg/kg As. and the last group received 5/5 mg/kg As. in combination with extract of gall in 3dose. After 30 days all rats were anesthetized with ketamine and xylazine, then rats’ liver and blood were taken. Serum and plasma were separated and rapidly frozen at −70 °C for biochemical analysis. This study evaluated the lipid and protein peroxidation of end products of tissue. Besides, total antioxidant capacity of plasma and liver and protein of liver tissue were measured. Discussion: The higher doses of Q.I reduced oxidative stress through inhibiting the peroxidation of lipid and protein. Besides, Q.I reduced total antioxidant capacity of plasma. However, further investigations is recommended to confirm the effect of higher doses of Q.I in decreasing oxidative stress in long time.
