چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of hydroalcoholic extract of Senna leaves on the lipid profile of rats fed with a high-fat diet. Methods: In this research, 50 male Wistar rats weighing 170-200 g were used and they were randomly divided into 6 groups of 8 rats in each. Group 1:did not receive any intervention. Group 2: rats consumed a high-fat diet only. Group 3: the rats received 100 mg/kg Senna leaf extract with a high-fat diet. Group 4: the rats received 200 mg/kg Senna leaf extract with a high-fat diet. Group 5: the rats received 100 mg/kg extract of Senna leaf. Group 6: the rats received 200 mg/kg extract of Senna leaf. Duration of intervention was 30 days. Blood samples were taken at baseline and the end of the experiment. Lipid profile of rats including total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) was measured and evaluated. Results: The results showed that the level of TG, TC, and LDL were significantly decreased in all groups receiving Senna leaves extract compare to the high-fat diet group (P <0.05) except groups 5and6. However, there was no significant change in HDL level. Conclusion: According to our finding, Senna leaves extract could result in a reduction of serum lipid profile. However, clinical trial studies are required to confirm these finding.
