چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: The prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing among women. Since diet quality and quality of life are two indicators of healthy lifestyle, we conducted this study to examine the relationship between these two among overweight and obese women. Methods: This study was carried out in a sample of 111 overweight and obese women, aged 35-60 years, from 3 clinics in the west of Tehran, Iran. Along with demographic and anthropometric data, Dietary data was collected using a 168-item food frequency questionnaire and the NRF9.3 algorithms were used to estimate the nutrient density of the whole diet. The quality of life was measured using 26-item WHOQoL-BREF questionnaire. Results: We found a significant relationship between the quality of life and job, marriage, and educational status of the participants, but there was no significant association between the quality of life and diet quality (P-Value = 0.506). Pearson correlation coefficient revealed that NRF9.3 index score was positively associated with BMI (P-Value = 0.012), but there was no difference between obese and overweight women regarding quality of life. Conclusion: The NRF9.3 index, as a measure of diet quality, was nor associated with physical, psychological, social, environmental aspect of health, neither total health. Weakness of the questionnaires used and the confounding effect of some variables could be the reason for our insignificant result. Further studies are needed to clarify the relationship between quality of life and diet quality among overweight and obese women.
