چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Given limited studies on dietary insulin load (DIL), we aimed to examine the association of DIL with cardiovascular risk factors and inflammatory biomarkers in elderly men. Methods: In the present cross-sectional study, 357 elderly men were recruited. Dietary intake was assessed using food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). DIL is estimated through multiplying the insulin index (II) of each food by its energy content and the frequency of consumption and then summing the final value of all food items. Results: The mean value of DIL was 42092.84±5804.71. After adjustment for some possible covariates, a significant positive association was observed between high DIL with fasting blood sugar (FBS) levels (OR: 5.06 95%CI: 2.47, 10.35; Pvalue: 0.0001) and High-sensitive C reactive protein (hs-CRP) (OR: 1.97 95%CI: 1.08, 3.59; Pvalue: 0.02). However, there was no association between high DIL with body mass index (BMI) (OR: 1.61 95%CI: 0.86,3.02; Pvalue:0.13), serum level of triglyceride (TG) (OR:0.69 95%CI:0.22,2.14; Pvalue:0.53), total cholesterol(TC) (OR: 1.07 95%CI: 0.06,18.46; pvalue:0.94), high-density lipoprotein-Cholesterol (HDL-C) (OR: 0.49 95%CI: 0.20,1.16; Pvalue:0.10), and fibrinogen (OR:1.43 95%CI: 0.76,2.69; Pvalue:0.26).Conclusion: Overall, Elderly men with high DIL had higher FBS levels than those with lower one. However, further studies are needed to clarify the association between DIL and other cardiovascular risk factors in both genders.
