چکیده مقاله:
Background and Aim: There are different equations for estimating Resting Energy Expenditure (REE). However, these equations were mainly developed based on population from western countries. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a new national equation for predicting REE among population from Iran. Methods: This study was conducted on 129 adults, a sub-sample from a large cohort study (Western – Iran). REE was measured by Indirect Calorimetry (IC) and the new REE predictive equations. Multiple liner regression was used to determine REE new equation. Data was analyzed using Pearson correlation, paired t-test and Bland- Altman plot. Results: Values obtained from our equation were not significantly different compared with those obtained from IC (P= 0.999) and its agreement limit was -476.11 to 476.09 Kcal/ day. Also, there was no significant difference between IC and Muller methods including weight and Fat Free Mass (FFM) equations in terms of predicting REE (P= 0.669 and P= 0.101); The highest correlation coefficient was found for the association between our equation and IC (r=0.692).Conclusion: Although new equation had higher limitation bias, significant correlation with IC was observed. The equation is applicable for local nutritional assessments. However, more precise equations are needed to apply for national population.
