چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim: Type 2 diabetes is one of the most prevalent endocrine diseases in the world that results from a combination of insulin resistance and ß-cell failure. Regarding importance of nutritional factors in management of diabetes, this study was designed to explore the effect of sesame oil on blood glucose and lipid profile in type 2 diabetic patients in Shahid Sadoughi hospital in 2017.Methods: A clinical trial study was conducted on 30 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (age: 49 ± 6.3 y; BMI: 27.6 ± 3.5 kg/m2; disease duration: 6.3 ± 2.7 y). Subjects received 30 g/day sesame seed for 6 weeks. Plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C), lipid profiles [Total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and triglycerides (TG)] were measured at baseline and after 60 days.24 hours dietary recalls were obtained at the first, middle and end of the study. Data were analyzed by paired t-test.Results: Following 60 days intake of sesame seed, significant decreases in FBS (160 ± 53.4 vs 132 ± 45 mg/dl), HbA1C (9.5 ±2 vs 8.1 ± 1.5 percent), TC (229.7±36.4 vs 190.3± 36.7 mg/dl), LDL-c (121.9 ± 35.6 vs 95.5 ± 30.7 mg/dl) , TG (227.9 ± 50.9 vs 191 ± 50.4 mg/dl) were observed (P<0.05). Also the changes of HDL-c levels were not significant. Conclusion: Our data have shown sesame consumption can decrease blood sugar, HbA1C and blood lipids in type 2 diabetics.
