A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE COST OF PURCHASING SINGLE-USE DISPOSABLE VEGETABLE DISHES FOR SERVING FOOD AND WASHABLE ARCOPAL DISHES WASHING MACHINE IN MANAGING CONSUMPTION OF HOSPITAL RESOURCES IN AUGUST 2018 (CASE STUDY)

Background and Aim: Hospitals are as among the most costly operating units in the healthcare system and kitchen is a costly unit among the service provider units of hospitals. In this regard, implementation of consumption pattern to prevent loss of financial resources is vital to achieve the objectives of the resistance economy. This study aimed to compare the purchasing and all indirect costs of disposable vegetable against Arcopal dishes in the industrial kitchen of Apadana Hospital of Ahvaz, Ahvaz, IranMethods: Substituting Arcopal dishes instead of single use disposable dishes is defined by mechanizing dishwashing machine and using microbial control testsResults: The annual cost of a disposable vegetable dish for averaged daily 400 food orders, in 3 main meals and 2 snacks is 317430000 Rials. Contrary, the purchasing cost of Arcopal dishes, considering all the costs of wasting or missing Chinese dishes, as well as the costs of water, electricity, and consumed detergents of the industrial dishwashing machine, taking into account the depreciation coefficient of the device in 2018, is 92365250 Rials.Conclusion: Findings of this study show that the use of disposable containers imposes a significant financial burden on the Hospital. By substituting washable dishes and controlling the amount of breakdown casualties and the loss of the dishes, it is possible to approach the goal of saving financial resources of the Hospital
