One of the most important issues in evaluating the national security of countries, which is also highly important in issues related to stable development, is the issue of energy security. In recent decades, with the increase in world’s population and concerns stemming from the significant increase in the consumption of common fuels, the necessity and need for secure and stable access to energy have become highly important. Therefore, it is necessary that countries try to implement strategies for improving energy security in order to prevent various crises in the field of energy as well as to prevent endangered national security. The majority of industrial countries have included strategies such as productivity and increasing the energy efficiency, diversifying the basket of primary energies, and utilizing renewable energies in their energy security policies. In this study, we have tried to geopolitically compare Iran and Japan to compare and evaluate the effects of renewable and nonrenewable energy factors on energy security strategies of these two countries. The results show that the geopolitical position of both these countries depend on the stable security of energy. Moreover, renewable and nonrenewable energy factors have the highest level of influence on security strategies, and utilizing renewable resources in the energy baskets of Japan and Iran will significantly contribute to improved energy security of these countries..
