چکیده مقاله:

Background: Oral infections are one of the major dental problems that some bacteria are agents that cause these infections. Treatment of these infections with antibiotics can lead to unwanted side effects such as drug resistance. Plants are a source of potential anti-infective agents. The medicinal herbs and its derivatives are a good source for the treatment of these infections. The aim of the present study was toevaluate the antimicrobial activity of different extracts of Daphne oleoides on aerobic bacteria causing oral infection Methods: In this research, the stem and leaves of Daphne oleoides were collectedfromthe mountains, Lorestan, Iran. They were air dried under shade for 2-3 days and crushed into a powder using a mortar and pestle.Aqueous, hydroalcoholic and alcoholic extracts of the Daphne oleoideswere extracted by using classic techniques for solvent extraction of the plant. The antimicrobial effects of agar Disk Diffusion Method (ADDM) and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) were evaluated. Results: The results showed that the antimicrobial activity was dependent on the type of extract and dosage. Theethanolextract of the Daphne oleoideshad the most antibacterial activity and the highest effect on Streptococcus mutans, compared with other extracts.Theethanolextractthe showed the lowest antimicrobial potential against Staphylococcus epidermidis. Conclusion: On the basis of the current result, the ethanolextract ofDaphne oleoidesmight be an appropriate candidate in the study as a natural plant antimicrobial agent andtreatment of oral infection diseases, such as tooth decay.
