چکیده مقاله:
Introduction and Objectives: Klebsiella pneumoniae is a causative agent of emerging infectious disease especially nosocomial infection. The polysaccharide capsule plays an important role in the infection process and K1, K2, K5 and K20 are the most common virulent serotypes. The aim of this study was to detect the serotype genes of K. pneumoniaeisolated from clinicalspecimensin southeastern Iran (Kerman). Materials and Methods: One hundred and three K. pneumoniae isolates were collected from patientsreferred to different clinical laboratories and hospitals inKerman city from October 2014 to May 2015. Clinical samples were mostly from urine, wound, tracheal secretions and blood. The isolates were detected by standard bacteriological tests. DNA was extracted fromK. pneumoniae isolates using a kit (Topaz gene research,Iran) according to the manufacturer‟s instructions.Confirmed isolates were examined to detect a selection of serotype genes (K1, K2, K5 and K20) by PCR. Results: The K20 serotype was the most prevalent in four isolates(3.9%). Three isolates (2.9%) were positive for K1serotype gene and none of the isolates were positive for K2 and K5 serotypes.97Conclusion: This study identified the lower frequency of predominant serotypes in the Kerman. Our data suggest that the K20 and K1 serotypes are most prevalence serotypes in this region.
