Comparing the attitude of resident/non-resident elderly people in nursing homes and evaluating their life style in Neyshabur city

Background: The world’s population is rapidly aging, and today, in many societies, aging is an issue of major importance. The purpose of this study was to compare the attitudes of elderly/ non- resident elderly people with age and quality of life.Materials & Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The data were collected using elderly quality of life questionnaire (LIPAD) and a researcher- made questionnaire on a simple of 212 elderly people in Neyshabur city. Data analysis was done using SPSS software and descriptive and inferential statistics.Results: Of 212 people in the study, 171 were non-resident elderly and 41 resident elderly. 51.2% of the elderly were male and 48.8% were female. 59.1% of the elderly were non-resident and 40.9% female. The majority of research units were between 60-75 years old. The mean age for the elderly was 57.79 ± 04.73 and 71.36 ± 70.89 for non-residents. There was a significant difference between the elderly and being non-resident in all dimensions of quality of life and attitude (p> 0.05). All dimensions of quality of life non-resident elderly were higher than those of the resident elderly.Conclusion: Research finding indicated that factors such as number of children, home status, level of education, marital status had a great impact on attitude and quality of life of the elderly
