چکیده

Background and Objective: Cell phones, especially in healthcare staffs, have become increasingly important in recent years as a potential source of infection and has a significant role in the development of hospital infections. The aim of this study was to determine the microbial contamination of mobile phones of Tohid Hospital staff in Sanandaj city. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, from 120 cell phone of staffs of Tohid Hospital in Sanandaj were sampled by availability method (haphazard, accidental, or convenience sampling) in 1394. Samples were prepared by swap and immediately transferred to hospital laboratory and after incubation in 48 ° C for 48 hours in 2 different mediums, it was cultured at 37 ° C. Then, the bacteria that were grown were identified by biochemical tests. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 2018, descriptive statistics and chi-square test. P < 0.05 was considered as significant level. Findings: In 79.23% of the phones, bacterial contamination was reported. Staphylococcus was the most frequency with 46 (38.3%) and Bacillus species with 26 (21.67%) had the second highest contamination level. Corynebacterium was the least frequency with 1 case (0.83%). In 9 infected phones (5/7%), more than one microorganism had grown. contamination in Intensive care unit (ICU) was more than general units (p< 0.001). Conclusion: The results of the study showed that the level of contamination of mobile phones was high and it is therefore necessary to inform staff about hospital infections caused by mobile phones such as other hospital equipment. Also, it is necessary to use periodically appropriate materials such as 70% alcohol to clean mobile phones and hands rinsed repeatedly after each contact with the phone.
