Optimal design of damped vibration absorber for vibration suppression of elevated storage tank via Imperialist Competitive Algorithm

چکیده

In this study, a damped vibration absorber with aim of reducing the vibration of a single column elevated storage metal tank was designed. The elevated storage tank was assumed as an Euler-Bernoulli cantilever beam and a single degree of freedom model (SDOF) of the beam was extracted. With regarding the elastic behavior of the structure, the values of mass and stiffness were determined at the free end of the beam. The storage tank contains a liquid which is assumed as a homogeneous ideal liquid with a small wave amplitude. Fluid turbulence within the tank which is caused by the vibration of the system is ignored. Applied loading, which was caused by factors such as wind or earthquake, was modeled harmonically. Tank vibration will happen due to the applied forces in the first mode. Mass of the absorber was assumed to be constant as a percentage of mass of the primary system. Then optimal values of absorber s stiffness and damping were determined by using imperialist competitive algorithm optimization method and H2 optimization criterion. The accuracy of the obtained results was confirmed.
