Considering the important role of students in building the future of the society as well as the significance of the subject, the present research aims at a comparison of educational motivation and its components in elementary students with and without the experience of a parent s death. The present research is of a causal-comparative, descriptive kind. The population consists of all the elementary students of the city of Javanroud in the year 1393; 140 students were chosen as the sample through available sampling (70 students with the experience of a parent s death, and 70 students without the experience of a parent s death). The demographic properties form and the elementary students educational motivation scale (Guy, et al. 2005) were used to collect the data. The obtained data were analyzed based on the Kolmogorov–Smirnov and the Mann-Whitney tests using SPSS-20. The analysis of the research data demonstrated that the expression of educational motivation and its components in the students with the experience of a parent s death is significantly different from those in the students without the experience. Considering the obtained results, it is proposed that the approaches to improve educational motivation be subject to more attention in the designing educational programs.
