Modelling Hydro-Morphological Characteristics of a Watershed at Micro Level in Northeastern Turkey

چکیده

All human activites occur in a watershed whether it is large or not. Today, integrated watershed management is being one of the most popular environmental regulation issue. Integrated watershed management aims at minimizing environmental problems such as soil erosion, soil and water pollution caused by land use while at the same time recommending the use of existing land in an efficient manner. In the integrated watershed planning stage, the hydro-morphological properties of the watershed is one of the most important factors determining land use types. Morever, it also highly affects that streamflow rainfall-runoof relations, water quality and quantitiy, natural hazards such as flooding, landslide and avalanches. Therefore, determing of the hydro-morphological properties of watershed by separating the sub-catchment, that which could provide great convenience to the planner during the planning of the integrated watershed management stage. In this study, Torul-Herek micro-watershed was used where located in Gümüşhane province in northeastern Turkey. Watershed characteristics such as area, the perimeter, form factor, circularity ratio, elongation ratio, average slope, slope and aspect, slope of the main stream, the number of streams, the frequency of the stream, drainage density and concentration time were determined. As well as actual land use condition that agriculture, forest, pasture and settlement area have been identified by using forest management plans, topographic maps, geogle earth and and ArcGIS 10.0 software. Consequently, the total watershed area was found as 4,16 km2 , the perimeter 8,66 km, form factor 0.398, circularity ratio 0.73, elongation ratio 0.71 and average slope 56,05%, average elevation 1926 m, slope of the main stream 271%, the number of streams 23, the frequency of the stream 5,28, drainage density 1 km km-2 and concentration time 14,85 minutes respectively. The actual land use ratio in watershed: forest 64%, agriculture including residental area 12%, pasture 24,14% were found respectively.
