چکیده

This study analyssed the barriers to adoption of climate change adaptation strategies among food crop farmers in Borno State, Nigeria. Available studies on climate change adaptation failed to indicate the barriers to adoption of climate change adaptation strategies by food crop farmers in Borno State. Primary data were mainly used for the study. These were generated from respondents through the use of structured interview schedules because of the low literacy level of the respondents. Multi - stage samplingtechniques was employed to select 320 food crop farmers for this study. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data collected. Descriptive techniques used were frequency distribution and percentages to categorize and summarize the data. The inferential statistical techniques were logistic regression and factor analysis. The result of the study revealed that majority (77.80%) of the respondents were male, married (86.20%) and within economically active age (40 years or younger). The factor analysis revealed two factors as barriers constraining the adoption of climate change adaptation strategies among the respondents namely; factor 1 (socio – economic and institutional barriers), and factor 2 (environmental and climatic barriers). Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended, among others, that climate change adaptation strategies suitable for specific agro – ecological zone should be disseminated and made accessible which could be supported through programmes on adult education to enhance the apprehension of climate change issues in the study area.
