On the Effect of English Language Knowledge on the Life of Iranian University Students

چکیده

In the present paper, the researchers studied the effect of English language knowledge on the life of Iranian university students. For the purpose of the research, thirty six students were interviewed in the higher education center of Farahmand Larijan. The study selected the descriptive method of research using qualitative instrument of semi-structured interview. The interviews have been carried out, then they were translated and coded into English. Subsequently, the factors and indices of the semi-structured interview questions were carefully identified by the researchers in line with the research purposes. Finally the data was analyzed qualitatively. The findings of the research indicated that only nine students, out of thirty six, believed that English has no effect on their life. And in fact, twenty seven of them one way or another believed that English affected their life greatly. Most of them said English is good for doing business, making communications and travelling for recreational purposes.
