Measuring the spiritual health of patients with breast cancer in Zahedan

Diagnosis of breast cancer jeopardizes mental health . The aim of this study was to measure the spiritual well-being of patients with breast cancer in Zahedan city. This research is a descriptive study. Out of the referrals to Ali ibn Abitalib Hospital in Zahedan in 1996 83 patients with breast cancer were randomly selected.Then the Pulotzin and Ellison Spiritual Health Questionnaire (1982) was completed by them. Analysis is performed by spss21 software and Independent t test , anova and Pearson correlation coefficient were used. The average score of spiritual health was calculated to be 82 ± 15 and 21% of the patients had moderate spiritual health and 78% had high spiritual health . There was a significant difference between the mean score of spiritual health on the basis of gender , age , occupation and education and there was a significant relationship with demographic characteristics (p <0.05) . Regarding the key role of mental health recovery in restoring these patients to normal life , it is necessary that the health team members pay special attention to this issue.
