Evaluation of variation of thickness and yield stress of constituent plates in ADAS damping system

چکیده
In recent years, a couple of studies has been done in the field of earthquake energy dissipation in structures. One of the most significant issues in this regard are passive dampers. Added Damping and Stiffness (ADAS) passive damper is a system for dissipating the structure’s energy in the presence of lateral forces. Many researches has been studied the role of ADAS dampers in structural frame, such as its location within the structure and the required number of dampers, but little is known about the modifications of the damper. The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of geometric and material modifications on the performance of ADAS dampers. Totally, seven dampers have been investigated using ABAQUS software and the obtained results have been compared to one of these models as a criterion (a sample model with constant thicknesses and yield stress). Three of these models have the same materials but different thicknesses, while the other three models have the same thicknesses but were composed of different materials. For the first case, the average thickness of plates and for the second case the average yield stress of plates were the same as criterion model. The aim of this modeling was to study the R-factor, ductility factor, over-strength modification factor and ductility reduction factor. The final comparison of the obtained curves and the numerical results showed that altering the plate’s thickness could improve the performance of the damper in absorbing the energy. Results showed that when difference between thickness of the plates with the same average thickness, was increased, the performance of the damper in energy dissipation was improved and at the maximum difference, the ductility reduction factor was increased by 12%. On the other hand, altering the yield stress, however slightly improved the ductility, but decreased the R-factorکلیدواژه ها
