Impact of unhealthy nutrition on breast cancer in women in Tehran in 1394

Background: Cancer is one of the most important non-contagious diseases .Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women, making up 23% of all cancers in women and the second most important cancer in the world’s entire population. The aim of this study is to probe the impact of nutrition and risk factors of breast cancer of women in Tehran. Methods: This descriptive and analytical study was conducted among 200 women suffering from breast cancer aged between 40 and 60 in the city of Tehran. The questionnaire was filled out by those women visiting the chemotherapy clinic themselves. The questionnaire included three parts: Case history, anthropometry and professional questions about nutrition and lifestyle. The data collected was analyzed using SPPSS19 software. Results: My findings show breast cancer is directly related to consumption of sugar, fat, fiber, processed food, inadequate sleep and duration of daily physical activity. The most important factors behind breast cancer are BMI, stress and family records. The biggest percentage of BMI was in the vicinity of overweight (31.4%). Then, 26.9% of women were in normal BMI and BMI in vicinity of obesity grade 1 and 2 made up 26.5% and 9.5% respectively. In addition, 5.7% of women suffered from excessive obesity. Conclusion: The result of this study illustrates that 36% of individuals surveyed also suffered from diabetes. High consumption of sugar and sweets is one of the risk factors for breast cancer. According to the data collected, it can be concluded that change in lifestyle and maintaining normal weight can help prevent breast cancer.
