Preparation and Characterization of UV-curable Epoxydiacrylate Transparent Coating

چکیده

UV curing is an environmental friendly technique because it is a solvent free process. The UV-curing process converts a reactive liquid into a solid through polymerization and crosslinking reactions induced by UV radiation. In this study UV-cured film based on epoxydiacrylate was prepared. Epoxydiacrylate was synthesized by reaction of epoxy resin with acrylic acid and sebasic acid. The UVcurable formulation was prepared with synthetic epoxydiacrylate as oligomer. Adhesion of the coating on metal substrates was examined in different UV curing times. It was demonstrated that the curing time and coating’s formulation are critical factors to the adhesion strength of UV-curable epoxydiacrylate based coating. Maximum adhesion strength of about 2.5 Ib/in2 was obtained at 6 min UV irradiation. The structure of the UV-cured film was characterized by FT-IR. The resulting polymeric film based on epoxydiacrylate exhibited 80% transparency in visible wavelengths. 4H pencil hardness and 200 double rubs solvent resistance against methylethylketone was obtained. Maximum water absorption capacity was obtained at 24 hr immersing in deionized water of 7.15% W/W.
