چکیده

this paper, a simple method was proposed for improvement the optical properties of the pearlescent pigments. The commercial mica-titania was used to produce two pearlescent pigments with green and bronze color. These colors were obtained by deposition of a layer of Cr2O3 and Fe2O3 respectively on the surface of the micatitania flakes. For improvement the properties of the pearlescent pigments, acid treatment step was performed on the mica-titania flakes to produce the unsupported mica-titania flake. X-ray diffractometer, scanning electron microscope and spectral reflectance were used for characterization of the products. Results showed that the platy TiO2 was successfully prepared by the acid treatment. Furthermore, the pearlescent pigments by using the platy TiO2 had better pearlescent properties, defined as the variation of h and L* at different viewing angles. The gloss properties of the pigment-based paints were investigated. Results showed better gloss properties for the unsupported mica-titania- based paints.
