چکیده مقاله:

Smart self-healing coatings, are fast growing research area where focus has mainly been on development of new approaches to the mechanism of self-healing. The protective ability is compromised and corrosion initiates when coating is damaged and the underlying material exposed to corrosive media. The remarkable interest in self-healing coatings is probably explained by the fascinating potential ability of such coatings to recover their structural integrity autonomously after occurrence of microcracks, which may arise due to release of internal stress in a coating or due to its mechanical damage. Healing can be achieved with various mechanisms; based on several approaches like encapsulation, Vascular Network of reactive species and inorganic nanoparticles as reservoirs for anticorrosion species in organic-inorganic Hybrid coating. Capsule-based materials have been adopted frequently for developing self-healing coatings. Nanoparticles as reservoirs can also exhibit self-healing behaviour as they can incorporate a large diversity of corrosion inhibitors in their structure. Each of mentioned approaches possesses its own strength and weakness which must be considered carefully when designing a self-healing system. The present reviewed literature provides the methods currently explored for design and applicability of self-healing coating
