A new alternative low-cost route to obtain zirconium oxide mesoporous has been developed by using
cheaper inorganic Zr (ZrOCl2. 8H2O) and a surfactant template (CTAB+). Two solids, with Zr/surfactant
molar ratios (0.5 and 1) were prepared. The mesoporous materials were characterized using several
techniques, e.g, XRD, FTIR, Nitrogen adsorption, TG/DTA and SEM. Studies indicated the content of
zirconium oxide in the mesoporous materials. XRD studies indicated that the materials did not have the
standard MCM-41 structure. FTIR studies showed that zirconium ions were incorporated into the
mesoporous structure of ZrO2 mesoporous: the thermal stability of the as-synthesized materials was studied
using TGA. Nitrogen adsorption was used to determine specific surface area, pore diameter, pore volume
and wall thickness in the ZrO2 mesoporous molecular sieves.which their template was removed by
extraction. The morphology of materials after extraction and calcination was determined by means of SEM.
