چکیده مقاله:

Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate changes in the silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) blood picture over a period of time after the acute exposure to cadmium. Method & Materials: In this study, silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) was selected as bioindicator species. Twenty specimens of fish were put in four tanks and were exposed to different concentrations of cadmium (0, 0.5, 1, and 1.5 microgram per liter). After the exposure period (120 hour), five fish of each group were examined for blood smears. The smears were stained using the Gimsa method, and viewed by using a light microscope. Results & Conclusion: In all of these groups morphological change in red blood cell was observed such as cell malformation, cytoplasm vacuolization, bare nucleus, chromatin disintegration, nucleus malformation, hemolysis cell, hypochromic cell, nucleus out of center and polynuclear cell. Data obtained were analyzed by a one-way ANOVA; difference between red blood cells characters were statistically important. The results showed even short time contamination to sub-lethal concentrations of Cadmium lead to turbulence in fish blood tissue in particularly on blood cell morphology. This turbulence is caused to anemia and hemolytic in fish.
