چکیده

Determination of the extent of damage and the woundseverity on live targets is a critical issue investigated byresearchers. However, since these tests cannot be directlyperformed on live targets, they have to be first simulated onballistic gelatin. Various parameters involved in this processhave to be then examined. In this research a total of 4 shotswere fired. The shots were fired using spherical projectilesat different velocities. Also to simulate the penetration of aprojectile into gelatin, the software requires the equation ofstate and the modeling coefficients of the gelatin. Therefore,the mechanical properties needed for the simulation weredetermined using a number of mechanical tests on thegelatin specimens including Split-Hopkinson pressure barand the quasi-static compression tests. Finally, the processwas simulated using finite element software, and the effectsof different parameters on the process were discussed.
