چکیده مقاله:

Carbon and graphite are attractive materials for high temperature applications due to their high strength, high modulus, excellent thermal shock and light weight. They are widely used as 2 A. Nasiri, Y. Safaei Naeini, S. Safi, M. Esmaeeli, M. Nouri Khezrabadiengineering materials such as heater, electrical contacts, high temperature heat exchangers and etc. However, the use of carbon materials has greatly restricted due to the poor oxidation resistance at high temperature in an oxidizing atmosphere. Achieving good oxidation resistance is crucial to utilize their full potential as high temperature materials. Oxidation protection for carbon materials has been extensively studied in the past 60 years. In the present study, effect of ultrafine grain boron and silicon carbide (B4C & SiC) additives on oxidation resistance and mechanical properties of resin bonded graphite was investigated. The oxidation test of the samples was carried out at 2473 K for 180 seconds in air atmosphere by using oxyacetylene flame. The results showed the addition of ultrafine grain SiC and B4C separately and mixture of SiC-HB4C increase the oxidation resistance of graphite bodies. Investigations on mechanical properties also showed that SiC lowerd the strength and B4C increased it.
