Unintentional Injuries Related Mortality and Morbidity among Children1-59 Months of Age in Fars Province, Iran

چکیده

The effect of unintentional injuries on global health situation is uncontroversial. Now a days, unintentional injuries as one of the most important factors of non communicable diseases play a key role in mortality and morbidity of Iranian 1-59 months of age children. During recent years, several studies have been carried out by different researchers but different studies has different results that shows the necessity of doing local research to find local patterns of aforementioned injuries for policy making or intervene to fix the situation.Material and Method:Data bases of Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education are used. For mortality study data set which is collected during 2011-2014 and for morbidity study data set which is collected during 2014 are used. Data after collection and some corrections has been analysed by SPSS.Result: Of 382 death cases which have been registered in System of death registration of MOH, the first three important causes of death were congenital malformation and deformation and chromosomal abnormalities, unintentional injuries and certain infectionand parasitic diseases. 59.2% are male. Most of them lived in rural area (52.6%) and were between 1-12 months of age. Most of death events occurred in spring season. Leading cause of death was traffic accidents, accidental drowning and submersionand other threat to breathing respetively. According to registry system, 5528 cases suffered from morbidity related unintentional injuries of which. 80.1% of all morbid cases were in urban area and 60.3% were male. The most vulnerable age group were children 13-24 months of age. Home had a greatest share in injuries happened to target population. Exposure to inanimate mechanical forces (27.6%), falls and Heat and Hot substances are the most frequent mechanisms of morbidity in target population. Traffic accidents as the fourth mechanism of morbidity, mostly occurred in children who were on board of vehicles.
