چکیده مقاله:

Noise pollution is the biggest environmental disadvantage of wind turbines and is a main obstacle in developing the use of wind turbines. Since the turbines usually rotate slowly, a low frequency noise is generated by the rotational blades. Although in most cases the generated low frequency noise is infrasound, several researches show that exposure to it can cause otologic symptoms such as dizziness or vertigo, tinnitus and the sensation of aural pain or pressure in people living close to wind turbines. In the present work, low frequency noise generated by axial wind turbines are investigated, and for this purpose, a small two-blade turbine is considered as a test case. First, the flow field is simulated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and then the noise is calculated by Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings equations. The results show that in addition to steady thickness and loading sources of noise, the flow field around the blades significantly participates in low frequency noise generation.
