Two imidazolium based ionic liquids, hydrophilic 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([C10MIM][Cl]) and hydrophobic 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide ([C10MIM][NTf2]) were prepared and a variety of their fundamental properties such as density, viscosity, surface tension and refractive index were investigated as a function of temperature. Herein the influence of structural variations in the identity of the anion on physical properties of the ionic liquids is determined.
